They do say that your mental state reflects in your work sometimes...as brutal as that criticism is...she probably wasn't off base. Though Olivia's reaction after that though is completely understandable.

there's definitely a better way to convey this message besides:
"_✦^✧_⟡ your art is terrible, and it's terrible because you're a total loser who's never made any meaningful connections with another person. ^⟡_✧^✦"

Oh definitely, there is a more tactful way to say such things. Guess the artist just wants to compound the fact her life is shit...I guess.

As an artist, learning the craft is only the second most important thing
Learning to take critique and improve on it is number one
That's what they teach you in art school
