I don't think this version is actually inferior. Looking at the tag history, it appears to have been uploaded by the commissioner/character owner.

Old post was a 1500x1275 PNG that's 770.4KiB
New post (this one) is a 4000x3400 PNG and 3.3MiB

there's a pretty stark quality difference, I think that's the main reason it got the old one deleted
