I used to use those two terms interchangeably until my therapist pointed out that guilt = feeling bad for doing something wrong, whereas shame = you feel that you are wrong

In my experience, shame is somethin’ others have put into me over my life, and somethin’ to recognize and work on for myself. What works for me won’t necessarily work for everyone else, but I find it helps to ask: “why do I feel ashamed of this?” and have a conversation with myself from there.
