What you don't know is, that's actually the best armor in existence. It protects the user from everything up to, and possibly beyond, a direct nuclear strike.

I think the artist meant that the chestplace is probably a -piece- of a larger species' armor. Looks like a boob-plate from a female's cuirass to me.

As far as the art goes, this is incredibly detailed, I like it, and would love to see more of this particular kobold =)

I really like the idea of the war-spade, too... shovel and pick and weapon all in one. Very fitting for a kobold or even a dwarf type character.

Considering the emphasis put on "mammal" (not "animal") next to it, I'd strongly agree it's originally a boob plate.

It could be a simple "Heart-stopper" basically a metal piece that protects the sides of your ribs to stop any attacks that would otherwise pierce to the heart.
