I loved this show too, but more as a teenager than I did as a kid. Let me clarify.
Warning: General TMNT Geekyness Ahead
I prefer to sort the TV shows by "Generations".
Gen I was the oldest with the guy who played Uncle Phil as the Shredder.
Gen II was the one that came out in 2003 that nobody talks about anymore for some reason. It's basically the ignored ginger middle child of the three.
Gen III is the new one on Nickelodeon.
Gen I was kiddy and fun...and that's about all it had going for it. The show really didn't take itself seriously at all, so I was never able to get engaged in it. I never shipped any of the turtles together this gen because it was obvious they all wanted April's tig ol' bitties.
Gen II is the best IMO (That is until Fast Forward when it tanked faster than the Titanic). It can be fairly dark and gritty at times, there was a coherent story throughout, and it was the closest to the original comic books minus the guts and gore. I shipped Raph + Leo, Mikey + Splinter, Donny + Leatherhead (I fantasized about a threeway with these guys) and April + Casey because it was canon anyways and they really are perfect for eachother.
Gen III Is a really nice mixture of Gen I and II. They're actually younger than in the other shows, which makes the "Teenage" aspect of it more passable and relates better to the newer generation. 17-19 isn't really "teen" to me. The voices takes some getting used to for sure. As of now I ship Mikey + Raph, Mikey + Leatherhead (Doublethink much?), Leo + Karai, and April + Casey once again. Donnie this gen can go masturbate in the corner for all I care. Splinter is mine.
