There is no difference in the quality, nor the resolution. And I don't think we're supposed to upload PNG versions just to flag the JPG version. If that's the case then that'd invite for an enormous amount of that happening.

500 KB versus 1.1 MB, so it is technically inferior..

Yeah, but if the site would encourage people to do this freely, then that would allow people to do this with other posts. Not something I would consider a good thing, there's potential for tens of thousands of posts to be posted as PNGs and have the inferior version flagged.

In the end users would just get a somewhat undeserved increases to their Deleted posts - decreasing their posting limit, not to mention all the added work for a seemingly menial improvement; And I'm sure there'd be plenty of users hunting for alternative PNG version of nearly all high-ranked posts on the site.
It'd be a bit chaotic.
