Desecrate me
Another muck about with pastels. The art store I buy my watercolour paper from no longer has what I usually use, so I bought some new stuff and wanted to test it out a bit. It's thicker (which makes tracing from the sketch to the paper a pain) but it's smoother, which makes things look quite nice. For painting it actually feels awesome, and I'm looking forward to trying that out more comprehensively.
Still overusing the pastels though. I think they'd be best used for some simple shading and detail, but using any more than a single layer starts to cause problems. Still I had fun here, played around a bit with using complementary colours for shadows. Kind of a neat effect.
The species is sort of based around the "Jesus Christ Lizard", as suggested by jaceycoyote on my Repository of Cool Critters . I only noticed later that I misinterpreted the flap on the back of it's head as two ear-like flaps.... if you look at it at a glance you might be able to see what I'm talking about, but if I had looked at the thing for more than a second before starting to draw it I probably would have caught the issue.
Ah well, I like her ear-flaps, so deal with it. x3
