Description

Morgan smiled happily as she jogged through the twilit park. The mostly-orange calico loved her after-work runs, even though her friends frequently warned her against going out alone. They were just being over-protective; the park she preferred was plenty safe, and she knew enough to keep her eyes open. Take that silver wolf on the bench across the way. There was no way he’d be able to cross the gap from where he was sitting to the walking trail before she could dig the can of mace from her pocket.
The wolf must have noticed her glance, as he gave her a friendly wave. Morgan waved back, caught his eyes, and nearly stumbled as she slowed her jog. Did his eyes glow purple? No, there was no word for that color, like it bypassed her eyes completely and arrived direct in her brain. His gaze was captivating, and she found herself stopping to stare back at him.
Suddenly she was right in front of the mysterious wolf, with no memory of crossing the intervening distance. Apparently he didn’t need to come get her in order for her to be in trouble, she thought wryly. Her mind was screaming for her to get out, turn and run before he did something terrible to her, but her body didn’t get the message, leaving her standing passively, eyes still locked with the wolf.
