MemberZirconium is used as the cladding in nuclear fuel which gives the fuel mechanical rigidity allowing it to be lowered in and out of the reactor. Can react with superheated steam to produce a crumbly zirconiumoxide which can allow nuclear fuel to seep out into the environment. Hydrogen is also produced in this reaction which can react explosively much as it did in Chernobyl and most recently Fukashima Diachii.
