Ok, wait, why is Yoshi a species tag but birdo a Character tag?

Perhaps because there's plenty Yoshi's but one Birdo? I dunno, I was never into the games much.

There was multiple birdos, but only in subcon and the spinoff soccer games.

At the very least it isn't exactly a single-being species or anything but it became known for the original one that was named Birdo but wasn't given a name that sounded like a species.

For all we know, really, birdo CAN be the species name AND be the name of a specific one, since we've had this happen before with cases such as one yoshi being understood as 'the' Yoshi, or 'the' toad, who I think is now Captain toad thanks to that game.

A bit confusing, I'll admit. To my knowledge, the birdos did not get developed as much as yoshis did. Should be safe to presume they're basically a mirror species that works orally though.

Over the last 2 decades Birdo has indeed slowly developed into a species and, as tradition to the Super Mario franchise, there is a secondary character that is named after their species. However, we don't know if ALL the Pink Birdo's are the same person, just like how there is more than one Green Yoshi.

I wanted to bring this issue up with a mod/admin to change the Birdo tag to species because of those reasons. Same thing for Piranha Plant.

Birdo is a species. 'The' Birdo is actually named Catherine, but the English name was changed to 'Birdo' in SMB2 due to issues in translation and wasn't corrected until Wario's Woods. With Toad, the main Toads are named 'Toad', who is Mario's friend and Peach's Lead Attendant, Bank Toad, who is Green, Buckenberry, who is blue, Ala Gold, who is Yellow, Mail Toad, who is Purple, Captain Toad, the leader of the Toad Brigade and Captain of Peach's Guard, and Toadette, Toad's Sister, Peach's good friend, and Captain Toad's partner. Sometimes they are just referred to by color.
