Description

As a game engine/VR experiment, I've ported over One Special night with Foxy to the Oculus Rift. Though, do note that it WILL NOT WORK without an Oculus Rift for now. I'm trying to get a 360 degree video out there for Gear VR and Cardboard owners.

  • Only thing I wonder, why did artist force VR usage? I don't see why this wouldn't work with mouse/controller at least to some degree, especially when consumer grade VR stuff isn't even out yet!

Also Google Cardboard version would work pretty well, majority of people should then be able to experience this with $1 cardboard and shouldn't be hard to do when it's done with unity engine.

I had set the deadline for right before Christmas so that people with DK2 could try it out right away.

As a result I didn't have enough time left to read up and test how to make the two control schemes work without intervening with each other. You see, this was my first experience with game engines and scripting, so everything takes longer than it really should.

As such, I choose VR as a priority as the video posted last year already provdes a monitor experience.

And while I did plan for it, unfortunately a direct Cardboard and Gear VR in-engine versions are out of the question. This is due to Android builds not working very well with animated textures, which the tablet in the beginning uses.

However, I am currently compilling 360 degree videos that will work with Cardboard and Gear VR. I hope to get those out in a few days. I'm also going to re-release it around March and April for the consumer VR releases. That version will be updated to use the lastest SDKs and will include mouselook.

does anyone know if this works with google cardboard?

The in-engine version won't, but I'm working on 360 degree videos that will. I hope to have that out in a few days.
