    fun fact: birdo's a guy.

fun fact: honestly nobody cares. everyone treats birdo as yoshi in the sense that theres multiple of the same species of both genders.

Actually I'm pretty sure "birdo" was refered to as an individual when he was first introduced in Super Mario bros 2. Even stated him as so in the manual.

    Nintendo's retcon says otherwise.

That's because Nintendo decided to relabel him as a girl when they realized making him a guy was just a bit too weird for their general audience

BUT THEY CANT HIDE THE TRUTH...

It is actually canonical that Birdo's mere physical appeance made it questionable for most Mario characters to decipher whether Birdo is male or female (which from time to time will pissed Birdo off or become dishearted). Proven on a number of games with some descriptions of Birdo's desires to find love and abilities (some base on Birdo's sadness of tears and woe).

The only real problem that has not enough clarification on this, we don't know if its just specifically the recurring pink Birdo or is it ALL Birdo's getting the same treatment.

    A solid standpoint

I see where you're coming from, but I never recall birdo ever being considered a whole species opposed to just an individual (unlike yoshis in which that was made MORE than clear in Yoshi's Island). If this is true, wouldn't it make sense to assume that birdo is no more than just an individual?

Well, just like the Yoshi's there has only been a small number of games that have colorswaps of Birdo, most famously the "Mario Striker" games.

Other than that it has been at best considered Birdo as species and not just an individual. Just like how there's more than one Green Yoshi it's possible there's more than one Pink Birdo.
