  • Crazy that people spent hundreds of dollars for a single character space in this. Not worth it at all IMO. Piece isn't bad, but jesus, some people are just stupid to think a single part of a drawing like this is worth $300+

  • There's something just gross about paying hundreds of dollars to have your character fucked by someone you don't even know.

Like, how little do you care about the identity of your 'sona that you just toss them at people whom you haven't even spoken with?

I don't get it either, I would think you would want to share a commission with someone special, not just drop them in with 8 other commissioners in a piece that has none of your personal flair. The whole point of getting art commissioned is to have an artist put their touch on your idea, which is completely negated by having Miles just drop your character into a sketch that is already 70% complete (his FA account posts the sketches before he inks them, there is literally no input from commissioners other than their 'sona being included.

I have seen lots of negative changes with the youngest generation of furs though, more interested in showing off that they got a "commission" from a well-known artist than investing that money in a new artist to help them along. As evidence by the down votes on you and I, they absolutely cannot take criticism of any kind.

I think it's more about that they so want to. And also, this is not new. It's been done for a long time.
If you want a more coherent example of why someone may want to commission their character in naughty ways that you don't agree with may be that they want to be at the center of attention. As some sexual fantasy and because they may not share your same idealization (or philosophy or meaning of love, sex, or just identity in general) they may go ahead and commission an artist as there is a market for it.
The artist is drawing what they enjoy doing despite you not liking it or them improving. It may be they are content with where they are (which again may conflict with your philosophy of art or constant improvmebt but that is subjective and not all are going to explore that).

If you so do wish for other artists to get attention, you could do well with trying to spread the word.
Also, I highly doubt commission artists such as this are "stealing" revenue(though I do realize you did not say this, I do feel compelled to try to argue this point before it comes up.). People typically get a few commissions, this varies in number. But rarely do they always get the same sexual commission from the same person unless they find an artist that shares their same link (it is not completely unfounded, but all I have is anecdotal evidence.)

I hope this clears some things up for you.
Also! Hi, I'm a new young furry, nice to meet you. (This may be passive aggressive, but I hope you understand my want to announce that.)

Woah. Do people actually care about their internet characters this much...? Do fursonas have social security numbers? Persistent credit? What happens when identity theft occurs? Is there a claims office?? If someone kills it, is it dead forever!?!?

Well, while I don't agree with the excess that the previous commenters had taken it, some of us personally identify with our sonas, as they are a part of who we are, not merely an internet character. Though, some of us also love to make others feel good, and this is usually expressed in a sexual manner. As long as everyone is happy and there are no regrets,... i see no problem.

though, i do wonder why so many are obsessed about the reverse position. Does nobody face their lover anymore?

When you take into account the time it takes to layout, sketch, draw, outline, ink, color, shade, tone, and texture,... we're looking at roughly 30+ hours of work for each character. That breaks down to $10/hour or less. What would YOU say a fair rate for an artist is? Personally, I say that is damned cheap

I dated someone who was a very talented artist. Not quite on this level, but very close, and I can say from experience it's nowhere close to 30 hours a character. I'd actually be surprised if they went over 10 hours for the whole piece. But with that said I can't even begin to count the tens of thousands of hours of practice and hard work that went into learning how to do this. As an artist he has every right to ask what he wants, and if people don't like it, they wont pay it and the price will go down. It's economics. If you want his services, you pay his price, or go somewhere else. Plain and simple. It's a transaction between two adults. No reason for us to even talk about it. They met his price, he delivered as promised, everyone is happy.

The layout, drawing, and inking may have taken 10 hours, but when you get into the fine details, applying the shadows, blending, shading, lighting, texturing, it adds up in a hurry. I've seen pieces like these go upwards of $800.

Now, I'm not going to pay that, of course. I would rather pay less for an inked lineart character turnaround, and any subsequent drawing I can do myself. But that being said, I can never match this skill level, and he deserves every dollar he gets, and then-some.

People's egos are literally tied into their derpsonas, are you fucking kidding? Go back a bit into Miles' work and you'll see that retarded dog with his equally retarded design which just oozes LOOK AT ME AND HOW COOL I AM. Yes, people take their shit that seriously.

  • I do have to wonder about the planning and co-ordination that goes into a piece like this. All those pairings - it must be harder than seating a wedding!
