Antelope

I got an interesting email in my inbox a while back... it was a challenge from an art site, to draw an antelope.

Somehow I don't think this is quite what they had in mind. Way more fun, though.

I actually drew up this picture because I wanted to test some new brushes I got. I thought that some of the difficulty I had with inking might be because the brushes I use for it weren't up to the task. I did some research, looked around, and bought some supposedly high quality brushes with good reviews, made for line work.

The result? Absolutely terrible. I felt like I had zero control over line weight, and I had to push fairly hard to get the ink to come off the brush, making starting a line in the right place difficult. Fine detail would be entirely impossible.

I'm not sure I understand. There are people who use brushes for very nice line work, but every brush I've ever tried has been miserable. It doesn't seem possible. I think it might be time to give up on brushes and just live with pens.

To those I owe commissions, don't worry- this didn't take up any time I would have been working on your pictures. Fact is, I'm rather ill at the moment and not up to any serious work, so I set them aside for a bit. All in all this has been a really shitty week so far- everything I'm trying is going wrong and now I feel like crap because sick. And it's only Tuesday. Shit.

Oh well... at least I have gazelle bondage.
