Rabies is basically the “zombie plague” of the furry world

  • This is what happens once the night howler serum antidote becomes ineffective, as the original compound has mutated and has become communicable (via fluid transmission, such as saliva from a bite).

And for our next trick, we'll turn cocaine and amphetamines into infectious diseases!

  • This is actually where I thought the story was going. They managed to throw you off by making it look contagious.

Guys... Imagine the apocalypse on what's occuring in Zootopia:

    -Multiple infections
    -Predator outbursts
    -Bloodshed
    -Multiple Night Howlers
-Zootopia, a decrepit city and in a critical state of anarchy, etc.

For those cases, I already putted a "End of the world" playlist together ^^

If you believe nighthowler to simply be a stimulant, point taken.

It is not so far a stretch that the serum awakens a dormant, more feral part of the animal hindbrain, or perhaps targets a section of DNA that evolution has deactivated.

I'll tell you that my caveman-brain stirs more frequently than I appreciate ...

Except that it was confirmed that prey animals showed the same aggressive tendencies as their predator counterparts when exposed to the serum. Kind of a major plot point.

I'm more inclined to believe it's a stimulant.

Most all species go through a fight or flight reaction under duress; the more timid the species the higher the likelihood of flight, of course, yet the fight option is still in the back of the brain somewhere.

Sabertooth cave-bunny with a spear, anyone?

If the nighthowler were a stimulant, it is one helluva drug; some of the abductees were still symptomatic after, what, 3 weeks?

A narcotic might have a high of 2-3 days at most, while most stims are processed out even faster. While we are shown a concentration process, no way would a stimulant last that long.

  • Someone took a particularly virulant strain of encephalitis and used recombinant engineering to make its cellular machinery synthesize the nighthowler compound and release it directly into the brainstem of the infected. We don't know who did this, but they were very good.

  • This could also be completely unrelated to the nighthowler incident. In a civilized society of animals, what do you think was a great medical accomplishment? Curing rabies. Well guess what bitches, rabies is back and it's worse than ever. It fits almost too well.

  • Psst, guys. Everyone who's speculating it's about Howler...

... That poster on the wall? Those are the symptoms of Rabies.

... Also the description outright says its Rabies so.
