April 10th: The bill has been vetoed!
April 2nd: The politicians in Arizona are about to sign into law a bill that would mandate sites like e621 to either impose age verification on all users or be at a risk of lawsuits. Such system would be required to go through third party vendors, who in turn must go through a government database to verify every user's age. This is not only a major violation of privacy, but it also opens up a very real danger of identity theft through phishing schemes and other methods, not to mention that we would not be able to control any of that information to make sure it is permanently deleted after age verification is complete.
Unfortunately, Arizona is the state out of which e621 operates, which means that this law will almost certainly affect us if it is to pass. If want to help us ensure that this site can continue to serve you without being required to know who you are, please ask the Arizona governor to veto this bill.
Please, help us get the word out by letting others know about this issue.

A friend of mine asked me for the last panel by itself in high resolution, and I decided to just go ahead and do a sort of remake of it instead. Hard to believe that page is from 2012! Doesn't feel that long ago.
For those who don't remember the context, Natani tried using magic to attempt a male disguise. Unfortunately, the illusion has problems. Two large problems, to be exact.
Skillful illusion magic in the Twokinds world isn't supposed to just trick the eyes, but all senses. A person's brain could be fooled into thinking that something is there when it's not, and vice versa, even when trying to touch it. However, Natani doesn't have that kind of skill. And like bad programming, unskilled magic is inefficient.
A well trained mage could weave a much more advanced illusion spell that costs much less magic to maintain. For example, the spell could be designed to only work when necessary, fooling touch or sight only when someone is touching or looking. But Natani's illusion, made through guesswork, is put together sloppily. It's running all the time, and as a result only lasts a few minutes.
That's why Natani doesn't try to go around illusioned all the time, and uses bindings instead. It would cost huge amounts of expensive mana crystals to keep up. And clearly, it doesn't quite hold up to scrutiny... or probing basitin fingers.
