Not quite, you two. Take into consideration that you can not only move through portals, but can see through them as well. Now, since we are supposedly very close to the subject, we are getting an angled view beyond the portals, it just so happens that the character doesn't exhibit the same effects of close-range perception as the background. When you see what would be an 'over-lap', you are actually looking slightly past the "surface" plane of the portal.

That's my theory, anyway.

you must play portal casually since you dont realize that each of the portals tips touch teh floor and ceiling, so it's very obvious the visual you would get through the floor would be the same on one and the other. therefore, the floor of the blue portal would be the ceiling for the orange and vice versa, forcing his body to the roof of the orange portal

Actually, depending on your angle while facing a surface when shooting a portal, you can get up-side-down portals. It's complex, and usually involves coming out of a floor and popping the wall "above" you before it automatically corrects your orientation. The effect, there-after is coming out of that portal upside down, which again, Chell immediately corrects.

When you have two portals you can, in fact see through one into the other and thus that theroy is also correct. This is not a failed artwork, the people who do not know what they are talking about need to shut the fuck up and go away, or fap. hey just saying that in portal you could turn a portal upside down.... this would actually be a good example of how portals have the ability to be upsidedown (like in the game)
