actually its blatantly said in the pokedex entries that females have heart shaped tails. You cannot find a male with a heart shaped tail in the games period without some sort of cheat engine at work.

My point being, the tail can only have any significance if the gender is ambiguous, and a regular tail doesn't always mean it's a male if the guy's drawing pre-2006 pikachu. I for one only knew about this heart-shaped shenanigans in here.
