News: Feb 26, 2025 Show

Feb 26th:A new bill in Arizona is making its way through the Senate that would force sites like e621 to implement mandatory age verification for all users—or face potential lawsuits. This system would require third-party vendors to verify every user’s age through a government database. Not only is this a massive violation of privacy, but it also introduces serious risks, including identity theft through phishing schemes and other malicious methods. Worse still, we would have no control over ensuring that user data is permanently deleted after verification.

Since e621 operates out of Arizona, this law would almost certainly impact us if it passes. If you want to help ensure that we can continue serving you without being forced to collect personal information, we urge you to contact Arizona’s senators and ask them to vote NO on this bill.

Please help spread the word about this issue and encourage others to take action.
Further information on the bill itself can be found at the Free Speech Coalition: https://action.freespeechcoalition.com/bill/arizona-hb-2112/

Yeah, if something looks like a girl, tag it female. Canon/lore has no place in tags.

If it's changed from female to anything else, you will get a record.

There is a TON to clean up, then. "girly rating:s -bulge" has twenty pages of results.

actually genitals are not the only thing that is used as evidence for gender tags. if genitals were the only evidence, then all clothed characters would need to be tagged as ambiguous gender. facial features and body shape are viable evidence too.

    howto:tag genders

maybe you should check out this page

I am perfectly aware of "tag what you see". I see a male character. The issue is whether we tag things based on what's canon or based on an outside perception of the canon (apparently we do the latter).

  • I asked an admin about this, but no response so I guess the female tag is here to stay, though ambiguous gender would still work here and probably make people happy, so why not a compromise among the people who enjoy the artist and to make tag searcher/filtering people happy as well?

  • Oops didn't notice the admin title at first. Still a shame such a lovely piece has so much unnecessary drama on it though... I guess people can figure whatever about Mio down here though.

Not that it's my place to say, but if this happens a lot, would the staff ever consider revising or adding rules to tag things with cannon? I still disagree, and think ambiguous gender would work, but if a lot of amazing pieces of artwork gets this kind of backlash maybe the rules could be looked into just for the artworks sake. Just hammering in even more the only reason I'm saying all this is, because I don't like seeing good art with a messy comment section.

If you search with the tags "girly", "crossdressing", and either rating:safe or rating:questionable, you'll find plenty of material like this. However, many of those are tagged as male. So how about Etheras, a canonically male character, who often crossdresses? If he isn't showing any genitalia, and has those feminine features, does that mean in this picture we must assume that Etheras is female? I'm just curious about how I should tag in the future with so many girly, crossdressing characters who have always been male.

    (Sorry for the late response)

You are correct in your assumption. If something looks female, it gets the female tag. In this case, having a feminine body frame and wearing feminine clothes is plenty to assume female, hence it receives the female tag. Canon is irrelevant.

  • Even then you're making an assumption of gender going off of body structure or face. I believe that ambiguous should be appropriate as you see no indications of a gender without making an assumption. I see no tit or penis bulge, therefore tag what you see should be ambiguous here.

    objective

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

References aside, though, seriously: Objective means it is cold, hard fact, and debating it is silly and fruitless. Subjective means it's up to personal interpretation/preference. Think of it like this: Subjective stuff is subject to personal opinion.
