It was. Guess that because this new version is technically higher res, the old version with its hundreds of favorites and upvotes has to get deleted.

This has happened multiple times with many other images as well. Always frustrating to see, especially at the expense of the page-layout of the site for mobile users.

favorites gets moved when older/inferior version gets removed. as you can see, this new one has over 1500 of them.
as for the "at the expense of the page-layout of the site for mobile users" - what are you talking about?

well, actually, i just realized he probably meant that huge images in full resolution don't get rescaled to fit the page width, so it's very hard to view them, especially on mobile devices.
...but your that's why there's a setting to show "samples" instead of the full resolution versions ;)
both saves data transfer and doesn't mess with page's width.
