A mortar is a muzzle loaded, man portable artillery system that is designed to provide short range indirect fire capabilities imbedded in smaller infantry units. They are often crew served, and have a caliber comparable to tube artillery, although it lacks in the range, explosive payload, and ammo variety tube artillery has available to it.
