Species: cacomistle
The cacomistle, Bassariscus sumichrasti, is a nocturnal, arboreal and omnivorous member of the carnivoran family procyonidae. Its preferred habitats are wet, tropical, evergreen woodlands and mountain forests, though seasonally it will venture into drier deciduous forests.
It is very similar in appearance to ring tailed cats, the other species of the Bassariscus genus. They can be differentiated by their more pointed ears, their non-retractable claws, along with their naked soles, a significantly longer tail, and the lower ridges on their molars. The fur color is a greyish to somewhat brownish gray, and their tail – similar to the Ring-tailed Cat has rings of black.
