Butt pose describes a specific pose where a character is seen from behind, with their butt toward the viewer, and their upper body is twisted around to face the viewer.
This pose is more commonly known as the "boobs and butt pose" or "tits and ass pose" as it shows off the character's chest/breasts and butt at the same time; despite the name, male characters are drawn in this pose as well.
What is, and what isn't a Butt Pose
Butt pose is a frequently misunderstood tag and incorrectly applied to images that don't show a butt pose.
To be tagged as Butt Pose...
- the character must be seen from the rear, either directly from behind, or from a rear three-quarters view
- their butt must be partially, or entirely facing the viewer
- the character must be turning their upper body towards the viewer
- a character laying on their front, with their butt facing the viewer, lifting their upper body and twisting it back towards the viewer is also a butt pose
What a Butt Pose isn't...
- a rear view with the character merely turning their head to look back over their shoulder is not a butt pose
- a rear view where the breasts are visible from behind is not a butt pose
- a character bent over or leaning forward in a way that presents or puts focus on their butt is not a butt pose
- a character seen from a rear three-quarter view - in a way that shows off their breasts and butt without the character having to turn their upper body is not a butt pose

Butt focus is a shot that uses posing, angles, lighting and other elements to draw attention to a character's buttocks. There is sometimes crossover where an image features butt focus of a character in a butt pose (see examples above)
Butt Shot
A butt shot is a close-up cropped view of a character's butt. Butt shots are usually too close cropped to show a butt pose.
Rear View
A rear view is a character viewed from behind in general. Most butt pose images are rear view.
