Shantae is the eponymous protagonist of the Shantae series of video games. Shantae is a "half-genie", with magical powers including prehensile hair (used as whip, the player's primary weapon in the games), and the ability to transform into various animal and monster girl forms, by performing dances.

As the guardian of Scuttle Town, Shantae's adventures often involve her working to thwart the plans of her arch-enemy, the pirate Risky Boots, as well as confronting other malevolent forces threatening the town or the world at large.
