Meta: aliasing

Aliasing can refer to many things, but here it mainly refers to the jagged "stair-stepping" edges along curved and diagonal lines, usually an artifact of low resolution and older programs. Modern image editing programs often include binary brushes, which produce lines with an intentional aliased effect. The tag is generally reserved for posts that are noticeably aliased without zooming into the picture.

Aliasing will almost always be present in a binary drawing, but pixel art and 3D art may add or remove anti-aliasing depending on the artist's vision.

  • post #4458823: pixel art with both aliasing (black outline and blue background with no transition between them) and antialiasing (purple pixels creating a soft transition between the black tail and the blue background).
  • post #2964755: 3D image without aliasing.
