torture
Torture is the infliction of great physical pain, or suffering of a character by another character typically for reasons such as sadism, or extortion. Common forms of torture such as waterboarding (water torture) can directly use this tag as long as a character is experiencing it. Although imminent_torture may sometimes apply.
Not all acts of extreme trauma should be considered as torture, as the theme involves a deliberate act to cause suffering. Situations that are incidental, or otherwise, where a character experiences intense pain should be tagged as suffering.
Some forms of torture, especially those involving peril, can evoke mental suffering. Situations that involve extreme fear, and risk of dying may also qualify as torture even if the character hasn't experienced any pain yet.
A character who receives pleasure from causing the suffering of others is known as a sadist. Conversely, a character who receives pleasure from suffering is known as a masochist.

These tags are for general trauma, or painful activity involving a certain body part. It might be considered torture, or it might just be an extreme BDSM theme.
Methods
Methods of torture may involve extreme pain, repeated rapes, starvation, slow asphyxiation, and may ultimately result in a grotesque death. In most cases, this tag should not be tagged with BDSM.
