icebox

An early, non-electric cold storage unit. The predecessor to the modern day fridge. It works by putting a block of ice in it. The sealed environment keeps the cold air in though you have to replace the ice now and again to maintain the cool internal temperature.

Its closest modern day equivalent would be the portable cooler.
