Viva Piñata is a video game franchise by Microsoft Studios and Rare. The series' first game, Viva Piñata (2006), was conceived as a mobile gardening game before Rare was acquired by Microsoft, and launched alongside a 3d animated series produced by 4Kids. The animated series connected heavily with the games, ending up influencing later installments in the series. The game received two console sequels: Viva Piñata: Party Animals and Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise, as well as a handheld release, Viva Piñata: Pocket Paradise, for the Nintendo DS.

Within the game, you tame and raise living Piñata based upon various animals and mythological creatures. You interact with them in a variety of ways, such as breeding them, selling them, sending them to parties, and so on. You can customize their appearances as well as the garden they live within, and protect them from predators as well as destructive flora and enemies.
