Emo is a subculture that originated in mid-1990s alternative music scenes, being primarily associated with pop punk, post-hardcore, and the namesake genre, emo. The fashion style associated with the emo culture is often mistaken for goth and scene fashion, despite the three being very visually distinct.
The most recognizable element of emo fashion is the iconic emo haircut, which has straight, flat, choppy bangs that usually cover one eye. Scene hair styles are also common, which have the same fringe bangs but with a focus on the hair being larger, fluffier, and often more colorful.
