The Nintendo Switch is the brand name for Nintendo's seventh and current console, and the successor to Wii U, released worldwide in 2017. It is a hybrid game console, being able to be placed in a dock to be played like a more traditional game console, and being able to be played portably with it's own built in screen and Joy-Cons, a set of controllers able to be attached and unattached to the console whenever with the push of a button. Upon being revealed, it got popular before release due to the switch dog, an anthrofied version of the console resembling the appearance of the Joy-Con controllers inside the grip.
In a deviation from the norm previously, the Nintendo Switch is Nintendo's first console with paid online, via the Nintendo Switch Online service, offering online play and other features via a monthly plan or a $20 yearly payment.
In 2019, Nintendo released the Nintendo Switch Lite, a cheaper version that can only be played handheld, and in 2021, Nintendo revealed an upgraded model called the Nintendo Switch OLED Model, featuring a bigger OLED screen, new Joy-Cons, and an upgraded kickstand.

General guidelines
- Use the switch console tag for the console itself, and switch charger for the dock. Use both if the unit is visibly inside the dock.
- The joycon controller tag should only be used if the Joy-Cons are detached from the main unit. Use of a Joy-Con grip, or holder is fine.
- Switch Dog should not be considered a console, or a controller. Do not tag as joycon controller.
