Species: pokemon (species)

An umbrella tag for all species, or contains elements of known species classified as Pokémon from the franchise of the same name.

Tagging notes

The best advice for using this tag is to let the implication handle it by tagging the applicable Pokémon species tag.

This is not an exhaustive list, but simply some examples of when this tag should apply.

Bad examples

post #837022 post #965893 post #603419

  • a picture of an original character with Pokéball boxers/other themed clothing that does not depict actual Pokémon
  • a picture of an original character with a vague symbol (such as a Pokéball) as an item or symbol
  • an original character dressed up as a Pokémon Trainer or other kind of cosplay without any Pokémon shown

In short, don't put this on posts that show only vague symbols from the franchise, use it only when Pokémon themselves are depicted. For symbols, trainer cosplay, and so on, use the umbrella Pokémon tag.

Species tagging

Despite being called Pocket Monsters, most Pokémon do not look monstrous enough to be tagged as monster. Moreover, while Pokémon species may also be tagged with certain physical traits/classes, they should not also be tagged with the specific species of animal they are based on. So for example, the Pokémon Blaziken (see below), could be tagged with Avian since it has bird-like features such as talons, feathers, and a beak; but it should never also be tagged with Chicken.
