Titanic is a 1997 American epic romance-disaster film directed, written, co-produced and co-edited by James Cameron that tells a fictitious tale about two people of different social classes who fall in love aboard the RMS Titanic, the famous ocean liner that sank on her maiden voyage in the middle of the night of 14–15 April 1912 after she hit an iceberg. The film, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in the lead roles, was the highest-grossing film of all time until Cameron himself surpassed it with Avatar in 2010.
