Great Ape or Ōzaru (大おお猿ざる) is a giant, anthropomorphic, ape and monkey-like creature. Saiyans from universe 7 who still have their tails can tranform into them. The Saiyan also needs to absorb at least 17 million zeno units of Blutz Waves through the retina of the eyes to initiate the transformation. Blutz Waves are found only in sunlight reflected by a moon. In other words, if a saiyan with a tail looks at a full moon, their bodies will release the chemiocals necessary for the transformation. If there is no moon, a planetary body will reflect the same number of rays and initiate the transformation such as a nearby dwarf planet or Death Star-sized space station.

Vegeta and Turles is one of the few Saiyans with the power to create a power ball that "bursts open and mixes" with the planet's atmosphere, creating a concentrated mass of blutz wave radiation.

All Oozaru generally have the same appearance with few exceptions. The only thing that helps individuals tell each Saiyan apart are their clothes. They have brown fur, red eyes, pointed ears, sharp teeth, spikey hair similar to that of Vegeta, and an extremely violent disposition, than usually results in them loosing their reasoning skills and destroying everything in site. Vegeta is also notably one of the only Saiyans to retain their reasoning skills to the point of being able to speak. The only other exception is the tuffle Baby while possessing Vegeta.

Oozaru are ten times larger and ten times more powerful than their normal form. Using this transformation, small groups of 5-6, possibly less Saiyans are able to single-handedly destroy alien planets they intend to conquer. However, cutting off the Saiyan's tail is enough to reverse this transformation as is destroying the source of blutz waves.

The great ape Transformation is also a necessary prerequisite to unlock Super Saiyan 4 in Dragon Ball GT, as Super Saiyan 4 is what happens if a Great Ape is able to turn Super Saiyan while being an Oozaru. In this state, their power level is their maximum Saiyan Power times 10. In the case of Goku whose most powerful form at the time was Super Saiyan 3: His multiplier was 400 from Super Saiayn 3 times 10. Giving him a multiplier of up to 4000. The transformation also returns the user to the prime of their youth and peak of their physical condition. This is extremely useful in the context of Dragon Ball GT, since Goku had been transformed into a child and Vegeta at the time had retired from fighting.
