Line art describes images composed of distinct straight and curved lines placed against a (usually plain) background to represent two-dimensional or three-dimensional objects. Line art can be of any colour and be drawn on any colour background, however, black/grey lines on a white background are overwhelmingly common. In some cases an uncoloured, lined character may be placed against a coloured or textured background, or be filled in with a single flat colour to distinguish them from the background.
Line art is traditionally the result of a cleaned up sketch, and done before flat colors are applied to a drawing.
Tagging Notes
- Posts tagged as "line art" should not have any shading or colour, with the exceptions of flat filled areas that match the colour of the lines (e.g. a character's pupils being shaded in) or hatched/crosshatched lines.
- Line art posts should have relatively clean lines, if drawing is rough and loose, and possibly features guidelines the post should instead be tagged as sketch
