shorts

Shorts are unisex bottomwear similar in structure to pants, but covering only the upper part of the wearer's legs. Shorts vary widely in length, coverage, materials, and fit. The "average" length pair of shorts cover around 1/2 of the wearer's thighs, though they may be longer, sometimes long enough to reach or cover the wearer's knees. Shorter varieties of shorts have their own terms, listed bellow.

Common Types of Shorts:

  • hotpants: "Short" shorts that are less than 1/2 thigh coverage.
    • minishorts: Very short hotpants, less than 1/4 thigh coverage
  • cutoffs: Shorts made from denim fabric. Otherwise known as "jean shorts".
    • daisy dukes: Extremely short cutoffs with visible pocket pouches poking out from it.
  • gym shorts: Generally loose shorts worn as athletic wear.
  • spandex shorts: Tight shorts usually worn while exercising.
  • cargo shorts: Shorts that feature many pockets.
