cutoffs
Cutoffs is used as a general term for denim shorts (often called jean shorts or sometimes "jorts"), this name comes from the practise in the 1960s and 1970s of cutting off the legs of normal jeans to create shorts, with these particular shorts having a frayed edge where the legs were cut. Very short denim cutoffs, sometimes with exposed pockets, are known as "Daisy Dukes".
While technically only intended to refer to denim shorts that appear to have been pants with legs cut, "cutoffs" is used on this site generically for any kind of denim shorts.
