Antlers are large, branching bony appendages on the heads of most deer (cervine) species, grown as an extension of the animal's skull. They are true bone and are a single structure. Antlers are traditionally shed and regrown each year, and are generally found only on males except in the case of reindeer, in which case both sexes can grow antlers.
