inflatable

Inflatable characters or props are those that are intended to be filled with air. This is a close cousin to the inflation tag. While that tag refers to characters actually being inflated, this tag refers to characters or props that are intended to be. (The "inflation" tag may not apply if they're presently deflated!)

Common features include valves, visible seams, latex/rubber/vinyl, and other clear signs of hollow-ness or artificial construction.

General guidelines

  • The inflatable tag doesn't specify that an object must be inflated. Deflated inflatables also count.
  • The primary difference between a balloon and, an inflatable pool toy is one is designed to float in the air, and the other is designed to float in the water. Situations where it is ambiguous tend to default to pool toy over balloon, but perhaps it may make sense to not choose either in the case of living examples.
  • Balloons do not typically have nozzles. This distinguishes them from other inflatables.
  • The reason that pool toy doesn't imply inflatable even though the vast amount of examples are inflatable is likely because there are uncommon exceptions such as foam pool noodles, dive sticks, and other rigid pool toys that are naturally buoyant, and do not inflate.
