Character: narasimha
Narasiṃha (नरसिंह) is the fourth avatār of Lord Viṣṇu (one of the principle Hindu deities and "the preserver" in the Trimurti which includes Brahmā and Śiva) and is depicted as an anthropomorphic lion.
Etymology:
नर(nára)/MAN + सिंह(siṃhá)/LION
Lord Narasimha bust forth out of a broken pillar to save Prahlāda from being destroyed by his father the ásura Hiraṇyakaśipu, king of the Daityas.
Hiraṇyakaśipu had been given a boon by the creator god Brahma that made him invulnerable to human deva (god) or animal, so Vishnu appeared as something that is all three and something else entirely, an anthro-lion, thereby thwarting the boon.
