Vehicles are self-propelled machines designed to transport things (such as people and cargo) through a variety of terrain depending on the type (land, water, air, space, etc.) and make use of a wide range of means of self-propulsion. In early time periods vehicles are propelled and powered by natural phenomena (eg.: wind power (sails), water flow, gravity, etc.) to muscle power (from animals and even other people). In modern times most vehicles are now powered by complex mechanisms such as engines and motors.
