A specific form of hypnosis that reprograms the subject's brain to have little or no thoughts, emotions, personality, or bodily function other than to be obedient and/or turn other people into servants with mechanical efficiency. Likely involves an inescapable rubber suit, coat of goo, mind control devices, symbiotic entities, robotization, etc.
It is likely that the concept of the Drones in this capacity originates from the Television Series Star Trek: The Next Generation. The Season 2 Episode "Q Who" who introduced a hostile alien race known as The Borg. The Borg operated in somewhat Eusocial Hierarchy, with a Borg Queen and much of the collective populations being referred to as Drones. The Borg's Goal was to obtain perfection by assimilating all other life forms (their knowledge, and technology, civilization, and physical capabilities) into their own collective. They did so by infecting non assimilated species with a subjecting them to lengthy surgical procedures or infecting them with nanoprobes to cybernetically augment the individual and take away their freewill from the collective.
