Yandere is a Japanese character archetype involving a character with feelings of love and attraction that are so intense they become mentally unstable, leading the character to become inclined towards stalking and violence. Yandere characters are extremely possessive and will often threaten or harm anyone who gets in the way of them and their object of affection. In order for this tag to apply, a post must depict clear and obvious yandere behavior.
The term yandere is derived from yanderu (ヤンデル, mentally unstable), and deredere (デレデレ, lovestruck).
Common ways to depict yandere characters
- Possessive and controlling behavior, i.e. "you will be mine"
- Heart eyes juxtaposed with blood splatters, weapons, and threats
- Violent outbursts towards their love interest or perceived "threats"
- Physically restraining the object of their obsession
- "Crazed" facial expressions, in combination with other elements
- The phrase "love me", especially repeated
