Meta: binary drawing
Binary drawing describes digital artwork that prominently features "binary" line art, which means there is no gradation in opacity to the lines, each pixel is either 100% filled, or 0% filled (e.g. either black or white), this creates rough, "aliased" lines. Binary artwork is often flat or cel shaded, sometimes featuring dithering (small dots of one tone over another to create a different tone, e.g. small brown dots on a white to create "tan") and/or intentional color banding.
Binary drawings may be compared to pixel art, but:
- Binary drawings may either lack pixel art techniques or apply them in different ways.
- dithering
- antialiasing
- sub-pixel animation
- Binary drawings are typically drawn on very large canvases, and pixel art on very small canvases.
- Binary drawings may include programmatically-generated gradients for coloring (binary_drawing gradient_penis), while pixel art usually does not.
