July 10 is Teddy Bear Picnic Day, named for the 1907 John W. Bratton song. This day is meant for celebrating the popular stuffed animal popularized by Theodore Roosevelt's refusal to shoot a tied-up bear as he considered it unsporting. (Also, Roosevelt hated being called "Teddy". It was better to use "T.R.")
