Dragonborn is a race of draconic humanoids originating from the pen and paper role-playing game, Dungeons and Dragons.
The dragonborn of Dungeons & Dragons typically sport approximately human-sized heights, non-mammal breasts for the females, no tails, and head spines resembling dreadlocks.
They started off life in the D&D series as good-aligned and non-draconic humanoids who, upon rebirth, willingly took on draconic traits as a show of devotion to their patron god Bahamut. They became a playable race beginning with 4th edition, though whose origins are unknown and varied. But when taking magical creation and lack of tails out of the picture, a dragonborn becomes near-interchangeable from a half-dragon.
Not to be confused with
- The Dovahkiin, the hero of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, often referred to as "(the) Dragonborn".
- A kobold or lizardfolk, with the former race essentially being made up of shorter draconic humanoids and the latter race usually having little to no relation to the dragon species.
