The 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar is the Mid-Autumn Festival AKA Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival (falling between mid-September and early October in the Gregorian calendar). It is a major holiday in China with similar ones held in neighboring countries in eastern Asia, and is on par with the Chinese New Year in popularity. It is based on the legend of the Chinese moon goddess Chang'e and her rabbit helper.
Lanterns of all shapes and sizes are on display, symbolizing lighting the path to prosperity and good fortune. Mooncakes are a common food item during this festival.
In 2025, it will fall on October 6.
