lichen
Lichen, or lichenised fungi, are various species of fungi that are most studied for their intricate, intimate symbiosis with a plethora of other organisms. Often confused for plants such as moss, these composite organisms are highly evolved for coexisting as a highly integrated colony, consisting of algae, cyanobacteria, and even other unrelated species of fungi. Lichens, despite being overlooked as ambient fungi fauna, may be capable of wearing down rocks into soil and dust, serving a critical role in recycling essential minerals back into the environment.
