Hurk is an onomatopoeia that represents a sound produced when a character's airway is suddenly blocked such as the case when they are gagging, or vomiting. The sound effect could refer to either one, or possibly be the result of smothering.

"Hurk" is only a regular sound effect for vowelless forms.
