May 17 is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Lesbophobia, and Transphobia (also International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia). Conceived in 2004, this day was first observed in 2005 in order to bring attention to human rights violations towards LGBT individuals and stimulate interest in LGBT rights. In 2009, transphobia was added to the name to bring more attention to the rights and violations of rights towards transgendered people. Biphobia was added to the name in 2015.
