In Greek Mythology, the hydra was a monstrous creature that terrorized the countryside of Greece. This creature is famous for having the ability to spawn two new heads should any of its still attached ones be cut off. This creature was one of Herakles' labors, who successfully defeated it by burning the stumps of its decapitated heads before they grew back and burying the immortal head under huge rocks.
